What is a dental crown?
Sometimes called a “cap”, this dental restoration is cemented over a tooth to restore appearance and function. A dental crown can also be used to reshape or strengthen the preexisting tooth to improve the look and feel of your smile.
When is it used?
A dental crown is a great option for many people dealing with,
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Severely discolored teeth
- Misshapen or malformed teeth
- A tooth that has just received root canal treatment
A dental crown can also be placed over a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.
How do you get a dental crown in Chesapeake, VA?
Before we can place the dental crown, we will need to prepare the tooth for the restoration. This means shaving down some of the tooth, so the crown can fit over it. Impressions are taken of your mouth and sent to a lab where they will fabricate your very own customized crown. In the meantime, your cosmetic dentist in Chesapeake will place a temporary crown over your tooth to protect it.
Once your permanent crown is complete, you will return to our office where we will remove the temporary crown and replace it with a permanent one (which is cemented over the prepared tooth).
